Status 2020

This was the first car show that I’ve attended outside of my home state of NSW. Also a first for showing up to a car show in an uber, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I got there just as the event was officially starting and the line was already out the door and down the street, was it really going to be THAT good?

Upon entry my first impressions were that it’s quite cramped inside and that impression rained true. It was hard to move around freely without having to worry about bumping into other people, let alone trying not to touch the cars that were on display. The event was hyped up in a way to make it seem like a massive venue with plenty of space between cars and in reality there was maybe a metre between each car at most and that makes appreciating the cars and taking photos very challenging, especially with such a large number of people attending the event.

Now the cars that were on display were all quality and there was a decent amount of diversity between makes, models and styles. One thing I can really appreciate was that I didn’t spot a single set of replica wheels. Nothing but the real deal. I have to give props to the selectors for being strict on that, as it’s something that ruins a car for me, doesn’t matter how nice it is, if it’s rolling on replica wheels I don’t want to know about it.

Once I had managed to make my way through the indoor section I headed outside to see what else was on offer, only to find cars once again bunched up closely together and a whole lot of wasted space. I was informed of possible weight restrictions being the reason for not making the most of the space available, but I still feel it could have been laid out a little better. It probably seems like i’m just complaining, but it’s the reality of the situation.  Within 30 minutes I had seen everything and had to force myself to stay for longer, which having some food vendors and a pub inside the venue definitely helped with. Yes a pub inside the venue, how good!

Overall, If the show was more spaced out I would have enjoyed it so much more. It was still a great show but the spacing just threw me off. Would I make the trip from Sydney to Melbourne for it all over again next year? Probably not, but if I were in Melbourne or the surrounding area I’d definitely go! Who knows, I might come back. It was a good show, but I’m just not too sure right now.
