Beat The Blue is an event organised by the NSW Highway Patrol designed to tear down the walls between the Highway Patrol and car enthusiasts, along with showcasing safe driving techniques and helping people learn how to control their vehicles in a safe environment. The event was held on a wet skid pan at Sydney Motorsport Park and the Highway Patrol officers were to face-off against the challengers in their street cars in a motorkhana style race where the first to cross the finish line wins. It was great to see plenty of people out putting their cars to use in a safe and controlled environment while having a bit of fun with the police at the same time. This these days isn’t really something you get to see on a regular basis, with negative connotations being associated with the police and Highway Patrol seem to be the norm. Overall I think the event was really positive for the community and hopefully will help some people realise that the Highway Patrol aren’t always the enemy and they themselves are enthusiasts, they just want people to be safe and make smarter decisions. I’m looking forward to what the next Beat The Blue event will have in store!
