My good friend Tyler recently acquired a Honda S2000 AP1.5. This was an unexpected turn in his life, coming from a 2008 Subaru WRX in which he managed to trade for this S2000. Tyler's WRX build had created a dedicated following on social media for it's unique styling. It was both loved and hated by people all over Sydney and even reached people around the world, so when it came time for him to say goodbye, people had big expectations for whatever was to follow. So here it is, will it live up to the hype? Personally I love it and it's only just begun! Tyler has already added some tasteful modifications to his S2000 which includes new Wheels (Desmond Regamasters), removing the wing it came with for a more sleek and subtle look, APR carbon side mirrors, new clutch kit, adjusted the ride height and has plans for cleaning this car up to the standard that has become expected from all of his cars. This includes colour matching the carbon front lip, new sides skirts and cleaning up some imperfections on the body as well as deleting the headlight washers up front.
I spoke with Tyler about why he ended up swapping over to the Honda S2000 and what his experiences have been so far. His response was in line with my experience with Honda ownership, having owned a '94 Honda CRX (Del-Sol) myself for just over 2 years before I moved onto my Evo VII. Tyler mentioned that he has always liked the S2000 platform, but never saw himself owning a Honda, however he felt it was time for a change and jumped right into uncharted waters, purchasing this S2000. I was told nothing but positive things about his experience with the car so far, with a love for the reliability of a naturally aspirated engine, coupled with the raw driving experience that an S2000 brings, it seems to have changed the way Tyler see's Honda's in general.
For those who know Tyler or had seen his WRX, you would know he was heavily influenced by the stance scene, having ridiculous camber on his WRX which made me question what he has in store for this car and what his plans are as far as further modifying it. I was told he wants to keep it as low as possible, while still retaining drivability as he would like to go for a more track-based style. He also mentioned going for upgraded brakes, refreshing the gearbox down the line and also keeping it N/A purely for the nostalgic feeling of when he first started driving.
Tyler has already created some great memories and met plenty of great people in the short period of ownership thus far and mentioned how impressed he was with how respectful and genuine other Honda owners seem to be. Owning the S2000 has really opened his eyes and he now has an understanding of why Honda's are so loved by their owners.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Tyler does in the future with this already gorgeous car!
